Walt Gutierrez Named Honorary Chairperson for the 2011 Coweta County’s Relay For Life

Walt Gutierrez, owner of Toyota of Newnan, is this year’s Honorary Chairperson for Coweta County’s Relay for Life. Toyota of Newnan has participated in this event since 2007, and to date, the team has helped raise more than $15,000. Walt’s team has made it their mission this year to raise more than $8,000.

This year’s Relay will take place from 7 p.m. April 29 to 7 a.m. April 30.  Teams of people will camp out at Coweta County Fairgrounds and take turns walking or running around the track. Emily Mausser, the team captain, has invented many fun and interesting ways to garner donations.  Fridays are “Dress Down Day,” and for $5, employees can come to work in casual attire. Several cookouts are scheduled, with all the proceeds going to Relay for Life.

Toyota of Newnan has also collected many silent auction items, and for 2011 has raised so far a combined value totaling more than $3,000. If you are interested in participating in the event as a team member, or would like to make a donation, please contact Emily Mausser at (770) 502-1333, or click here.

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s annual signature fundraising event. It is a life-changing experience that gives participants in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease.

At Relay, teams of people camp out at Coweta County Fairgrounds and take turns walking or running around a the track. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length. Why do we Relay?  Because the American Cancer Society Relay for Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated.
